Who can Volunteer?
WarBlitz encourages people of all ages and all countries to participate. All legitimate (recorded, images scanned, transcribed) WWII histories will be uploaded and placed online for the world to view and learn.
Those who participate are busy, but make time to achieve this task. Whether they be artists or musicians, filmmakers ,history-buffs, or none of the above, they employ their talents where possible in the interviewing/archival process. For example: Many artists are scanning in stunning WWII photographs that until now, have not been made public.
SEEKING FILMMAKERS, BEGINNERS or ADVANCED
Although we will not be using expensive film, we recommend filmmakers have access to a 24p video camera, where possible. Knowledge of sound recording, lighting and composition is extremely helpful. If you are interested in recording an interview, contact us.
Interviewing is easy and probably more engaging than any other option. We have provided a
LIST OF QUESTIONS HERE. These questions are general and will function for any country or line of military service. If you would like to interview, contact us.
“I HAVE ACCESS TO A SCANNER, LAPTOP AND KNOW PHOTOSHOP”
If you would like to archive original photographs and documents from past wars contact us.
Seeking volunteers who will say, “I can transcribe”
TRANSCRIPTION
If you would like to transcribe, contact us.
How to Interview
DOWNLOAD A .DOC FILE HERE THAT CONTAINS BASIC INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
Don Norton, a retired BYU professor from Provo, UT assisted in teaching me the way to properly conduct an oral history interview. Mr. Norton has conducted over 1,000 vet and civilian interviews in his lifetime. He transcribes them and sends them to the United States Government, veteran's families, and the Saints at War project if veterans are members of the LDS Church.
Don Norton also gave me paperwork provided by the federal government which asks specific questions about the veteran's service, a waiver and a release form. We have provided a list of questions here. These questions are general and will function for any military service, albeit Air Force, Army, Navy or Marine. They are also basic enough to function internationally. To receive the waivers or release forms, please contact Kimball.
ALL INTERVIEWS MUST:
1. Be digitally video-taped (high grade quality where possible)
2. Include an archive of original scanned photos and memorabilia photographed, where possible
3. Be completely transcribed, where possible
4. Have the FOLLOWING FORMS COMPLETELY FILLED OUT, courtesy of the Veteran's History Project with the Library of Congress.
5. Be submitted to WarBlitz. You can either meet Kimball in person to transfer the files to the hard drive or submit them to his FTP site. Please e-mail Kimball and he will give you the FTP information. There is plenty of server space for a night-time upload. Once a batch 20 oral histories is compiled, they will be submitted to the Library of Congress.
